A special exhibit from The Library of Virginia, We Demand: Women’s Suffrage in Virginia, will be at the Galax Public Library from November 12,  2020 thru December 18, 2020.

We Demand: Women’s Suffrage in Virginia, presents the full, but little known, story of the campaign for women’s suffrage in a key southern state where traditional views about women (and much else) held sway. Despite the challenges they faced, Virginia suffragists created an effective state organization, the Equal Suffrage League of Virginia, that coordinated the efforts of scores of local chapters located not only in urban areas but surprisingly in remote and rural areas of the state as well.

This free traveling exhibit for the Library of Virginia with support from the Task Force to Commemorate the Centennial anniversary of Women’s Suffrage, can be viewed at the Gals Public Library during library hours.

Galax Public Library, 610 W. Stuart Drive, Galax, COVID-19 operating hours are: Closed Sunday and Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, 10-6, Monday and Wednesday 10-4, Mask Required..
